SNYP TNR PROGRAM:  Helping feral cats

SNYP provides services for trapping, neutering and returning feral cats to their home territories. This practice is commonly referred to as Trap-Neuter-Return. TNR has been found to be the most effective, humane and long-term method of feral cat population control. Not only does it stop the growth of the colony, it eliminates many undesirable behaviors such as spraying, yowling, wandering and littering. TNR makes feral cats better neighbors.

What is a feral cat?

Feral cats are domesticated cats who have lost trust of humans and cannot be handled by a person safely. Your own pet cat can become feral quickly, learning to fear and stay away from people. Every feral cat originated from an unfixed pet at some point in their lineage.  Hence, the importance of fixing every single house cat cannot be overemphasized!

Feral cats live in colonies and defend their turf or territory. Territory is perhaps the most important thing to a cat. Knowledge of their territory, where there is food and water, dogs, cars, hiding spots, other cats etc. enable cats to survive. The drive to return to their territory is one of their strongest instincts.
